PORT HARCOURT — The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its determination to uphold higher standards of professionalism and implement innovative strategies to improve public service delivery to residents and stakeholders across the Niger Delta region.
The interventionist agency made the pledge in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during events organized to commemorate the 2026 International Customer Service Week — marking the first time the Commission has officially observed the global event.
Speaking at the ceremony, the NDDC Executive Director of Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, stated that providing responsive and efficient customer service remains central to the Commission’s core mandate of driving people-oriented development across its mandate states.
Abegunde reassured regional stakeholders and host communities that the NDDC management remains dedicated to ensuring the equitable distribution of development projects.
”This commitment is evident in the kind of projects the Commission has delivered through the Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the management team,” Abegunde said.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and economic reforms, noting that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda has established a solid foundation for inclusive growth, national unity, and sustainable infrastructure development in the country.
In her address, the NDDC Deputy Director of SERVICOM, Dr. Irene Okezie, highlighted that Customer Service Week provided an important opportunity to honor frontline staff who build public trust and strengthen organizational relationships under challenging conditions.
”We are delivering service to the region. We are service givers and takers; we ensure that things are done well and that we strictly comply with established operational processes,” Okezie noted.
She added that celebrating the maiden edition of Customer Service Week would serve as an operational benchmark for continuous institutional improvement and efficiency moving forward.
Complementing this view, the Deputy Director of SERVICOM at the NDDC Abuja Liaison Office, Kikelomo Aina, urged public servants to demonstrate empathy, accessibility, and commitment when assisting vulnerable citizens seeking intervention.
Similarly, the event’s guest consultant, Pastor Benson Eghaire, emphasized teamwork, resilience, and perseverance among personnel as key drivers for optimal service delivery.
Established under the NDDC Act of 2000, the Niger Delta Development Commission was created to facilitate the rapid, even, and sustainable development of the oil-producing Niger Delta region into an economically prosperous, socially stable, and ecologically regenerative area.
Over successive administrations, the agency faced persistent calls from stakeholders for greater transparency, operational accountability, and direct impact on grassroots communities.
Under the current leadership structure led by Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku and Executive Director of Corporate Services Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde (appointed by President Bola Tinubu), the Commission has emphasized a policy shift from “transaction to transformation.”
SERVICOM (Service Compact with All Nigerians) was established by the Federal Government to eliminate administrative bottlenecks, eradicate institutional corruption, and ensure citizens receive timely, transparent service from public institutions.
By integrating formal SERVICOM frameworks and observing Customer Service Week for the first time, the NDDC aligns itself with wider Federal Civil Service reforms aimed at improving public perception, institutional responsiveness, and citizen engagement across federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
