BRITISH counter-terror cops have smashed a suspected Iranian spy ring in a series of dramatic midnight raids across London and the Home Counties.
Ten men were hauled into custody in the early hours of this morning as detectives moved to disrupt what they believe was a chilling plot to survey Jewish individuals and locations.
The swoop, led by Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command, saw four men arrested on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service—specifically the Iranian regime.
Detectives struck shortly after 1:00 AM at addresses in Barnet, Harrow, and Watford.
The main suspects include one Iranian national and three dual British-Iranian nationals. In a major escalation of the probe, a further six men were arrested at a single address in Harrow on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, confirmed the arrests were part of a “long-running investigation.”
“Today’s arrests are part of our ongoing work to disrupt malign activity where we suspect it,” she said. “We understand the public may be concerned, in particular the Jewish community, and as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant.”
Two men, aged 40 and 55, were arrested. Search teams remain on site at three separate properties in the area.
Watford: A 52-year-old man was taken into custody. Police are also searching a linked property in Wembley.
Harrow: A 22-year-old man was arrested alongside six others, aged between 20 and 49, who are suspected of helping him.
The arrests were made under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023, a powerful new law designed to catch those doing the dirty work of hostile states on British soil.
Background: A Growing Shadow
Today’s operation comes amid a “watershed” moment for UK security. Relations between London and Tehran have hit a freezing point following a series of high-stakes events in 2025 and early 2026.
The Met’s move follows repeated warnings from MI5 chief Ken McCallum, who recently revealed that security services have tracked more than 20 potentially lethal Iran-backed plots since 2024.
These have moved beyond mere propaganda, with the regime now accused of using “criminal proxies” and local gangs to carry out surveillance and intimidation.
The Jewish Community in the Crosshairs
The Jewish community in London has been on high alert for months.
Following the regional fallout of the October 7 attacks and subsequent military strikes involving the US, Israel, and Iran in early 2026, synagogues and schools have seen a massive spike in security threats.
The government recently announced emergency funding for protective security at synagogues as the “physical threat” from Iranian intelligence services shifted from targeting dissidents to monitoring broader community targets.
The 2023 National Security Act was fast-tracked specifically to give police the teeth to tackle this kind of “foreign interference.
Under Section 3, anyone found to be providing “material assistance” to a foreign intelligence service—even if they aren’t a “spy” in the traditional sense—can face up to 14 years in prison.
