COPS investigating the brutal New Year’s Eve killing of a young Nigerian-British man in South London have arrested two suspects.
John Temitope Onetufo, 23, was found bleeding to death in Grove Street, Lewisham, after reports of a horror stabbing just after midday on Wednesday.
Emergency crews, including the London Air Ambulance, raced to the scene at 12:35 pm to find the Deptford local fighting for his life with a single stab wound to the chest. Despite the frantic efforts of paramedics to save him, John was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Today, detectives confirmed they have arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Both remain in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, who is leading the investigation, said her team has been working “relentlessly” to track down those responsible for the New Year bloodbath.
”This is a significant development, but our investigation remains ongoing as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened,” DCI Townsend said. “I want to extend my deepest sympathies to John’s family and friends. We remain committed to finding answers.”
John’s grieving family is currently being supported by specialist officers as the investigation into the “tragic incident” continues.
Police are now desperate for anyone with information to come forward to help nail the killers.
