Minister vows to scrap ‘illegal’ jetties for glamorous waterfront

    By SCM Staff Writer

LAGOS is set for a massive MONEY-SPENDING waterfront makeover as its top infrastructure chief vows to transform its coastline into a global tourist hotspot.

Honourable Commissioner Dayo Bush Alebiosu announced the ambitious plans yesterday, claiming the Nigerian powerhouse is aiming for a slick, Dubai-style transformation to become one of the world’s Top 10 tourism destinations.

The Minister, speaking at a major summit, revealed a bombshell plan to ditch the State’s old, rickety wooden jetties in favour of modern concrete pontoons to ramp up safety and boost water travel.

“This is a massive upgrade that aligns with global best practices,” Alebiosu declared, promising to enhance safety and expand operational capacity.

But it’s bad news for any rogue developers looking to make a quick buck!

Alebiosu is launching a full-scale war on illegal and unplanned land reclamations. He warned that unauthorized digging and dumping along the coastline poses “severe environmental risks” and slams the brakes on long-term development.

The State is now set to sanitise the current landscape of dodgy, illegal reclamations.
In a move set to send a shiver down the spines of cowboy builders, the government is instead promoting iconic models like Dubai’s legendary Palm Jumeirah and Singapore’s Marina Bay.

The Minister reckons these glitzy projects are proof that properly executed waterfronts can spark a huge boom in tourism, economic growth, and global visibility.

In a massive win for commuters and holidaymakers, the government has also kicked off a plan to rehab ALL existing jetties to improve safety and give users a better experience.

Alebiosu concluded with a confident swagger, telling attendees: “All hands are currently on deck to ensure that Lagos State becomes one of the top 10 tourism destination hubs in the world, and the signs are there for everyone to see that it’s fast becoming a reality.”
