MOSCOW — The Kremlin put a spotlight on Russia’s growing technological ambitions this week as the President toured an exhibition of artificial intelligence projects developed by leading Russian companies.
The showcase featured a range of homegrown innovations, from humanoid robots to advanced neural networks applied to science, medicine, and finance, underscoring a national push for self-sufficiency in critical digital technologies.
The exhibition highlighted contributions from tech powerhouses Sber and Yandex, alongside other key players in the Russian tech sector.
Sber, the state-owned banking and technology conglomerate, presented several of its in-house developments.
The most visually striking was Grin, a newly developed android. The company also demonstrated intelligent assistants built upon its proprietary GigaChat model, designed to support various business applications.
Beyond general applications, Sber showcased specialized AI platforms: AI4Science, aimed at automating the preparation of scientific articles, and AI4Sport, an analytical tool capable of evaluating sporting events.
A notable practical application was a smart ATM equipped with a built-in health assessment module.
Yandex, often referred to as “Russia’s Google,” detailed its work on its Alisa AI neural network. Representatives also discussed the efforts of the independent Artificial Intelligence Institute autonomous noncommercial organisation.
A significant presentation focused on R-Farm, a project utilizing AI to accelerate the design of pharmaceuticals, particularly those targeting severe brain diseases.
The industrial sector was represented by PhosAgro, a major fertilizer producer, which unveiled its “AI chemist.” This system is designed to automate complex industrial processes and continuously monitor compliance with technical and safety regulations, enhancing both efficiency and control.
Finally, the Head of the Russian Popular Front Executive Committee, Mikhail Kuznetsov, reported on the practical, high-profile use of Sber’s AI technologies in the production of major annual media broadcasts, specifically the “Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin” program.
The tour comes as global powers intensify efforts to dominate the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence. Russia’s focus on showcasing these domestic capabilities signals a clear strategy to position its tech sector as a critical driver of economic growth and a source of technological independence.
