AMMASOMA, Bayelsa – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commissioned and handed over a fully furnished 10-room Corps Members’ Lodge to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ammasoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The project, which was described as part of the Commission’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), aims to provide decent accommodation to enhance corps members’ effective service delivery to their host communities.
Speaking during the ceremony on October 5, 2025, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, who was represented by the NDDC Bayelsa Director, Engr. Godknows Alamieyeseigha, explained the motivation behind the initiative.
“This project is aimed at providing decent accommodation for corps members to enhance their effective service delivery to host communities,” Alamieyeseigha stated.
He also announced that similar projects would be replicated in other communities across the state, appealing to the corps members to remain law-abiding and ensure the lodge is well-maintained.
The State Coordinator of the NYSC in Bayelsa, Mrs. Obiageli Okpalifo, who led the management team and corps members to witness the handover, expressed profound gratitude to the NDDC for the “landmark project.”
She noted that the lodge would motivate Corps Members to deliver improved service to their host communities and also conveyed the appreciation of the NYSC Director, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu. Okpalifo assured the NDDC management that the facility would be properly maintained.
However, the State Coordinator seized the opportunity to appeal for additional support from the Commission, specifically requesting the construction of a solar-powered water borehole at the NYSC Orientation Camp and the provision of security for the new corps members’ lodge.
Okpalifo also thanked the Ammasoma community for their peaceful environment and urged the traditional ruler, youth leaders, and the Police to ensure maximum security for both the lodge and the corps members.
In his response, the Traditional Ruler of Ammasoma Kingdom, Chief Akedesuo Goodwill, expressed his appreciation to the NDDC for completing the project, reinforcing the appeal to the corps members to ensure the new facilities are properly maintained.
