Rishi Sunak resigns as Labour Party gets landslide victory in Britain
LONDON – The Prime Minister of Britain, Rishi Sunak has resigned but said he will be in power until a new government is formed.
Sunak said he is sorry and that the message was clear from the election that government must change.
“I have heard your anger. I take responsibility for the loss”.
He said he believes Britain is safer and better than when he took over power in 2022.
He said that irrespective of disagreements during the campaign, Keir Starmer is a decent gentleman and called on all to support him.
The Labour Party led by Keir Starmer got landslide victory in the election after 14 years of being in the opposition.
Results from the election show that the Labour Party won 412 seats in Parliament, Conservative Party 121, LD 71, Green Party 4, SNP 9, SF 7, OTH 29.
Sunak will now step down as leader of the Conservative Party but will remain as MP.
