Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium set to host Enugu Rangers FC
ENUGU, Nigeria – Barr Lloyd Ekweremadu, Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Enugu State has announced the completion of the refurbishment of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
He highlighted that the stadium, long neglected, has undergone extensive reconstruction and now boasts modern facilities, meeting global standards for hosting sports events. This renovation was officially approved by the Nigeria Professional Football League, certifying the stadium fit for use.
After a hiatus of two years and two months, during which the Rangers Football Club had to host matches away from home, the Flying Antelopes are set to return to their homeland. The commissioner joyfully revealed that the Rangers FC will finally play at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium once again. Their first home game is scheduled against the Shooting Stars Sports Club of Oyo State on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
Barr. Ekweremadu expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, acknowledging the crucial support that led to the timely restoration of the stadium’s lost glory. He credited Governor Mbah for his commitment and fulfillment of promises made in ensuring the stadium’s revival.
Encouraging the enthusiastic support of the local community, the commissioner urged fans to rally behind the Flying Antelopes as they make their triumphant return to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. He extended an invitation to the people of Enugu State, emphasizing the significance of this momentous occasion as Rangers FC gears up to play on their home turf once again.
In his rallying call, Barr. Ekweremadu appealed to everyone to show up in large numbers on Thursday, December 28, to witness the historic match against Shooting Stars SC, promising a memorable and vibrant event that celebrates the long-awaited return of the Rangers to their cherished Cathedral.
