ATM robbers arrested in international operation
NETHERLANDS – Investigators have taken internationally coordinated action against a gang of suspected robbers who used explosives to steal cash from ATMs.
Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) announced on Tuesday that nine searches and five arrests were made in the Netherlands.
The five suspects are alleged to have looted more than €1 million (€1.07 million) from cash machines and caused damage amounting to €2 million in explosions in western and northern Germany, and Luxembourg.
According to the police report, those arrested are between 23 and 38 years old. They are alleged to be responsible – as perpetrators or as facilitators – for a total of 22 blasts between May 2021 and August 2022.
According to the BKA, the operation was preceded by transnational investigations. The five people will be brought before a Dutch magistrate, it said. The judge will decide on the extradition requests submitted by Germany.
