Fate of Oliver Glasner uncertain at Eintracht Frankfurt
FRANKFURT – Coach Oliver Glasner will leave Eintracht Frankfurt after the season, according to news reports Tuesday in the wake of a crisis meeting between the Austrian and the club’s board member for Sport, Markus Krösche.
Broadcasters Hessicher Rundfunk and the Bild paper said that the meeting arranged on short notice took place on Monday night and it was decided that the German Cup final against RB Leipzig on June 3 will be Glasner’s last game in charge.
There was no official statement from the Frankfurt club. Glasner, 48, came to Frankfurt in 2021 on a contract until 2024 and led them to the Europa League title last year.
This term they have reached the German Cup final but are struggling in the Bundesliga with 10 games without victory, meaning their only realistic chance of playing in Europe again is winning the Cup final.
Glasner lost his temper at last weekend’s 3-1 defeat in Hoffenheim, being red-carded during the game and then verbally attacking a reporter at the post-game news conference which was criticised by club leaders.
Dino Toppmöller, who last was an assistant of then Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann, is said to be the top candidate to take over in Frankfurt. Hessicher Rundfunk said he has had first talks with Krösche, with the two knowing each other from past terms at Leipzig.
Glasner, for his part, has been linked with several European top clubs.
