German chancellor pays tribute as King Charles, Camella are crowned in UK

BERLIN – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid tribute to the environmental activism of Britain’s King Charles III as the latter was crowned in Westminster Abbey, in London, on Saturday. His wife, Camella, was also crowned Queen of the United Kingdom.
“For me, it was and is very important that he is someone who is committed to close cooperation between the United Kingdom and the European Union and who also has his own very important agenda to advance climate protection,” Scholz said on Saturday on the sidelines of a visit to Kenya.
“That will also help us.”
Charles became king of Britain after the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
The official coronation ceremony is took place in England on Saturday, attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, representing Berlin.
Later, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the newly crowned British royal couple.
“The Coronation is a testament to the enduring strength of the British monarchy. A symbol of stability and continuity,” she tweeted. “My congratulations to King Charles III and Queen Camilla.”
She was among the numerous politicians invited to attend the coronation ceremony.
Representatives from 203 countries were expected, including about 100 heads of state.
