LAGOS, Nigeria –  Nwakaego Boyo, better known as Ego Boyo was the cynosure of all eyes in the classic  television series, Checkmate, produced by the late legend, Amaka Igwe.

While the soap lasted, viewers found her not only as a crush but  were largely in love with the role she played  with Francis Agu and the way they carried on as the Haatrope family and their investment.

That was the days when Nigerians from all walks of lives rushed home from whatever engagement to get glued to the series then on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, sponsored by  then Liver Brothers.

Ego Boyo maintains two personality, very bold but soft spoken on television but shy and very withdrawn in reality, keeping to herself and her family.

She is one of the very few among the actress that were very reluctant to switch to Nollywood when home videos dictated the pace.  Although, Amaka Igwe again got her to play a role in Violated, one of the masterpieces created in the early days of Nollywood in 1996.

Just few days, ago, the pretty queen of the screen turned 54 and she had every reason to celebrate her life and that of her lovely family.

“As I consider the year that I’ve had, all I can see is how much of God’s goodness has been over me and my family through all the years.

“As I celebrate my birthday today, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone. To those who have supported and uplifted me; to friends and family; to those who have prayed for me and others who have loved me, even from a distance. Thank you. May your own years be filled with endless joy and blessings”, she said.

Specifically, Ego Boyo who hails from  Enugu was born on September 6, 1968 and  turned 54 on Tuesday.
