ONITSHA, Anambra – Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has assured the  Anambra state governor Prof. Charles Soludo of assistance to generate revenue for the state on agreed condition.

Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu Depot Community in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu state, Mr Chinedu Anyaso stated  this on Wednesday, after emergence meeting in Awka to  address the governor’s call to increase their levies.

According to him, IPMAN members have agreed to increase its consolidated levy of N100,000 with 20 percent , thereby bringing it  N120,000  annually.

“We called this  meeting to discuss government calls to increase our levy. After thorough discussion , the general house agreed that we should increase  by 20 percent, that is  from original N100,000 to N120, 000. The economy is tough and it is  affecting everybody and on the strength of general agreement, we will meet the government for negotiation. Government had invited us and we have been discussing with them , but no agreement  because I cannot do anything without  the members approval ” he said.

According to Anyaso, IPMAN is committed to making Anambra state better  but the government has to consider their plights  in the sector. He said that with the increment , government must assure them of no other  tax in the state.

He however   regretted that all depot in the South East are not functioning ,saying that it adds to their challenges. According to him, the governors in the South East are not interested in the functionality of depot rather on taxing IPMAN members.

“I have always wanted  us to get it right in the South East. Our depots must be functional. If the depots are operational the prices of petroleum product will drop ” he said.

He also said  that due to  the over taxation of their members ,many had died of BP because  they can not cope  to pay their bank loans. “We are owing banks and governments don’t  need to over tax us ” he said
