Nepal, May 23, 2016 – At least four people have died seeking adventure to the top of Mount Everest. The four died on Thursday, but effort is ongoing to locate two other climbers who have been declared missing, officials of the Nepal Rescue team have said.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the quest to get to the top of the 29,035 feet mountain situated on the Tibetan Plateau between Nepal and Tibet.
Since last Thursday four people have died including a Sherpa. Rescue efforts are ongoing for two other missing climbers.
Over 400 people are said to have attempted to climb the mountain between April and May reputed to be the best period to climb.
Director, Department of Tourism, Nepal, Sudarshan Dhakal who confirmed the death said 288 foreigners and more than 100 Sherpas and guides have attempted to climb the mountain this season.
Leader of Nepal Rescue Team, Mingma Sherpa identified Phurba Sherpa as one of the unfortunate climbers to have failed to reach the summit. According to him, Sherpha, 25 fell near the summit while attempting to six a route about 150 metres.
