Thirty-seven lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the House of Representatives on Wednesday decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers said they are joining the APC due to division and fictionalisation within the PDP.
While reading the names on the floor, House Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal said the defection of the lawmakers was in obedience to section 68 subsection 1G of the constitution.
Among the defectors are the Chairman, House Committee on Publicity, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, from Kwara State and Dakuku Peterside from Rivers State.
With the present development the APC now has 174 members from its initial 137, while the PDP will have 171 from its initial 208. The defecting lawmakers also perfected their acts when the they obtained an injunction from an Abuja High Court stopping the PDP from taking any action regarding declaring their seats vacant in the house.
