Nigeria, Lagos, June 27, 2016 – At least three elderly pensioners today fainted and almost passed on while carrying out ongoing verification exercise by the Lagos State Local Government Pension Board.

Although canopies were provided by the Lagos State Government, but it was just too small to contain the hundreds that stormed the venue to clear themselves so as to be able to receive their pension.
The long wait in the midst of officials who are not too organized, coupled with inadequate sitting arrangement was said to have worsened the situation, forcing the three affected elderly pensioners to collapse and consciousness.
We gathered that they were hurriedly rushed into a waiting ambulance provided by the Lagos State Government for first aid.
One of the elderly pensioners was still in the ambulance laying prostrate and being attended to when our correspondent arrived after the heavy down poor.
One of the nurses working for the Lagos State Ambulance Services(LASAMBUS), who spoke under anonymity told our correspondent that the first two pensioners that collapsed were rushed to one of the hospitals in the neighborhood but was rejected for lack of facilities to help one of the elderly pensioner to recover properly.
He said one of the pensioners has been admitted in his private hospital while one was still being attended in one of the clinic and another in the ambulance. The verification exercise continues tomorrow.
