OGBARU, Anambra – Residents of Okpoko, a community in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, have praised Governor Charles Soludo for his transformative contributions to their area.
They expressed their appreciation on Saturday during a visit by the leadership of the Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Group to inspect the projects the governor has implemented in the community.
The residents commended Governor Soludo for his efforts in building essential infrastructure, such as hospitals, roads, and providing tap water—amenities that had previously been absent.
Miss Sylverline Uche, a local resident, expressed her excitement over the transformation the governor has brought to the community, calling Soludo a “God-sent leader” who has given the people of Okpoko a sense of belonging.
She shared that Governor Soludo has wiped away their tears, noting that before his administration, the community had been neglected.
Born in Okpoko, Uche reflected on how, until recently, there were no good roads, no hospitals, and no access to tap water. “Before now, Atani Road was impassable, but today, you can travel easily from Atani Street to Owerri Road.
she said. “I am from Imo State, and now, when I want to visit my home state, I no longer need to go to Upper Iweka—I can travel directly from Okpoko.”
She concluded by praising the governor for his extraordinary achievements in Okpoko and expressed hopes for his continued success.
“We are praying that God will keep him alive. I will also do my part to mobilize residents for his reelection,” she added.
Another resident, Mr. Jude Ogbonnaya, a landlord in Okpoko, shared his gratitude for the governor’s efforts.
He pointed out that no government had ever remembered their community, but Governor Soludo’s administration has changed that.
“When Soludo was sworn in as governor, the very next day he visited us and promised that he would transform our community. We didn’t think he meant it, but today we are witnessing the wonders of Soludo’s work in Okpoko,
“Today, we have a hospital where we can receive medical treatment. In the past, we had to buy medicine from stores and travel to Onitsha for treatment.
Previously, Okpoko had no proper roads, but now, all our roads are paved with asphalt. We also have access to tap water, which was unimaginable before. Soludo has truly transformed Okpoko, rescuing us from hardship and bringing us into the limelight of Anambra State. We now believe in him. In the past, we didn’t believe in such promises because many governors had come here before, making similar promises that were never fulfilled. We will support his reelection—Okpoko will mobilize for his victory.”he stated.
Dr. Chukwuma Agbodike, the Medical Director of Okpoko General Hospital, spoke about the advancements made in healthcare services in the community. He explained that the hospital is fully digitalized, with all patient records managed electronically, which enhances productivity.
He also noted that children, as well as pregnant and nursing mothers, receive free medical care.
“We have a steady supply of electricity at the hospital, as it is connected to both the national grid and solar power. This ensures that if the grid power goes out, the solar system immediately takes over,” he said.
Dr. Agbodike also mentioned that the hospital currently has over 40 medical beds, with plans for further expansion.
Karmel Chuks Ogbonna, the leader of the Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Group, also expressed satisfaction with the achievements of Governor Soludo in Anambra State over the past three years. He emphasized that granting the governor another four years would allow him to further develop the state. “Governor Soludo has accomplished great things in Anambra, and if previous governors had done even half of what he has achieved, the state would be much further along in its development,” Ogbonna stated.
The overall sentiment from the residents of Okpoko was one of gratitude and optimism for the future, with strong support for Governor Soludo’s continued leadership.
