JERUSALEM, Israel – The Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has kicked off a probe into the circumstances surrounding the sudden demise of Sergeant Yosef Haim Tzvi Serlin who passed away during a training exercise.
Meanwhile, the Commanding Officer of the Intelligence Directorate Major General Shlomi Binder, has appointed an external examination team led by Brigadier General R’, the Commander of the Combat Methods and Innovation Brigade to review the incident.
Additionally, the Commanding Officer of the Ground Forces, Major General Nadav Lotan, has ordered the suspension of Krav Maga training until Sunday and until the completion of the inquiry on the incident.
Sergeant Yosef Haim Tzvi Serlin, aged 19, from Jerusalem, a combat soldier in training in the 504th Unit, collapsed during a routine training exercise in northern Israel.
The soldier was treated by medical officials in the field, but following resuscitation efforts was pronounced dead.
His family has been notified.
The Military Police opened an inquiry into the circumstances of the incident. Upon its conclusion, the findings will be submitted for review by the Military Advocate General’s Corp.
Sergeant Sergeant Yosef Haim Tzvi Serlin was promoted in rank from Corporal to Sergeant after his death.
