ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Decease Control, NCDC has said that a total of 98 people have died of Lassa fever in the country.
In a statement, the NCDC said the 98 deaths were recorded across 14 states.
She said that there are 535 confirmed cases recorded in the country, adding that a confirmed case involving international travel to the United Kingdom has also been reported.
Lassa fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF) caused by the Lassa virus. The natural reservoir for the virus is the multimammate rat (also known as the African rat). Other rodents can also act as carriers of the virus.
