KIEV, Ukraine – President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky has congratulated the Baltic States in Europe for disconnecting energy supply from Russian energy grid.
Zelensky is referring to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
In a statement, Zelensky described the day as an important day adding that the Baltic States which are friends of Ukraine are now fully synchronized with the European Continental system.
” Their energy systems are now fully synchronized with the European continental system.
“Ukraine has already done this in 2012, and now the Baltic States have also lost their dependence”, he said.
According to him, the development means that Moscow will no longer be able to use energy as a weapon against the Baltic States.
” And it also means that Europe has become even more integrated.
“This is the course that all of us in Europe must continue to follow – everyone on the continent. This applies, in particular, to the countries of Central Europe – those that still have agreements with Russia.
“We need to work more with America – LNG gas, oil. We need to work more with our partners in the neighboring countries of the European Union in this region to import the necessary energy. The Caucasus, the Middle East, North Africa”, he said, adding” the less Europeans are dependent on Russia, the sooner we will be able to guarantee reliable security for everyone in Europe.
“I congratulate our friends – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia – on today’s achievement. It is important that Poland helps, and this proves again and again: cooperation between all of us is the independence of each of us”, Zelensky said.
