BERLIN – The plight of German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz is worsening each day after the collapse of coalition government as more serving ministers have dropped their resignation letters.

The latest is Transport Minister Volker Wissing – the three Free Democrat (FDP) state secretaries in the ministry, Daniela Kluckert, Oliver Luksic, and Gero Hocker, do not wish to remain part of the government anymore

As Kluckert announced on the platform X on Thursday morning, the three FDP politicians requested that the minister arrange their dismissal with the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Previously, Wissing, in contrast to his FDP colleagues in the Cabinet, had declared his intention to remain part of the federal government. He said he had therefore informed the party leader and outgoing finance minister, Christian Lindner, that he was leaving the party. He does not wish to join another party.

“We no longer have confidence in Volker Wissing after his solitary decision,” Kluckert wrote on X.

Luksic also criticized Wissing’s decision. He told the Rheinische Post newspaper: “To me, responsibility means not clinging to office, the sovereign [people] must decide quickly now.”
