Oxford leads university rankings as Covenant beats UI to number 2 in Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Times Higher Education has released the 2024 World University rankings with Oxford University, United Kingdom, topping the list, followed by Stanford University, United States. 

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology  in the United States was ranked the third best university across the world, followed by  Harvard University, (US) as the fourth best in the rankings.

University of Cambridge, United Kingdom was ranked the 5th best university, while Princeton University, (US) is the sixth, followed by the California Institute of Technology(US) 7th.  The Imperial College, London is the 8th best university in the ranking, followed by University of California, Berkeley (US), while Yale University, also in the United States is ranked the 10th best university across the world.

Covenant University (CU)was  listed as Nigeria’s overall best university in Times Higher Education ranking, beating University of Ibadan, UI, to the second best in Nigeria.

The Times Higher Education World Rankings,  a comprehensive global ranking of universities published annually assessed  1,907 universities in 108 countries and regions.

The ratings were done based on 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

This year’s ranking analysed more than 134 million citations across 16.5 million research publications and included survey responses from 68,402 scholars globally.

“Overall, we collected 411,789 datapoints from more than 2,673 institutions that submitted data,” The Times Higher Education said of the rankings.
