BERLIN – Former German chancellor Angela Merkel is to present her memoirs, titled “Freedom, Memories 1954 – 2021,” in Berlin in late November.

The former leader of Germany’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will present the book at the Deutsches Theater on November 26, the day of the book’s publication, the theatre announced.

The event will be open to the public and will be moderated by journalist Anne Will. Advance ticket sales will begin at 11:00 (0900 GMT) on October 10, according to event page on the theatre’s website.

Merkel co-wrote her political memoirs with her long-time political advisor Beate Baumann. According to the publisher Kiepenheuer & Witsch, the book is around 700 pages long and is to be published in over 30 countries.

Merkel, who is now 70 years old, did not run in the 2021 federal election after serving as German chancellor for 16 years.

Born in the northern German city of Hamburg, she grew up in the former East Germany, studied physics and became politically active during the period of political upheaval after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

She was elected to the German Bundestag in 1990 and served as minister for women and later minister for the environment. From 2000-18 she led the CDU, the post which led her to the chancellery in 2015.
