DAMASCUS- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Syria believes Israel is responsible for the explosion in Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights that killed at least 12 people.
In a statement, the ministry said Israel carried out the attack as part of its attempts to escalate the situation in Syria and expand the scope of its aggression against it.
“The israeli occupation entity committed a heinous crime yesterday in the city of Majdal Shams in the #Syrian Golan occupied since 1967, and then blamed the Lebanese National Resistance for its crime”, the Ministry said.
The statement denounced blatant attempts by Israel to fabricate pretexts to expand the scope of its aggression, and holds it fully responsible for this dangerous escalation of the situation in the region.
“The Syrian Arab Republic affirms that our people in the occupied Syrian Golan, who have refused for decades of israeli occupation to give up their Syrian Arab identity, will not be fooled by the lies of the occupation and its false accusations against the Lebanese National Resistance that it is the one who bombed Majdal Shams, especially since our people in the Syrian Golan were and will remain an integral part of the resistance to the occupation and its aggressive policies that violate land and identity”.
Meanwhile residents of the city appear to be angry with Israel for the incident.
A video uploaded on the internet showed residents of Majdal Shams protesting the presence of the Israeli finance minister in the area, urging him to leave.
