LAGOS, Nigeria – Following engine fires, German truck manufacturer MAN is recalling more than 60,000 lorries and buses into the workshop for a check.

To MAN’s knowledge, there have been 170 fires so far that could be due to specific engine damage, 18 of which have occurred this year, the company said on Friday.

Trucks and buses built between 2016 and 2019 with Euro 6C engines of types D2676LF51-53 or D2676LOH35-37 are affected, as their bearings are more sensitive to contamination and oil ageing.

If the maintenance dates are not adhered to, damage can occur after a longer mileage, usually between 400,000 and 500,000 kilometres.

Around 120,000 lorries and 5,000 buses are on the road with these engines across Europe. According to MAN, around half of them have already been to the workshop.
