KADUNA, Nigeria – The Kaduna State House of Assembly has nailed former governor of the state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, accusing him to have syphoned a whooping sum of N423, 115, 028, 072.88 from the state coffers between 29th May, 2015 to 29th May, 2023 when he held sway as governor.

In their executive summary, the lawmakers put the total liability of the Kaduna State Government at N602, 026, 388.55 since the time the former governor took over the reigns of the state to the time he handed over power to his predecessor.

The lawmakers alleged that el-Rufai’s Commissioner of Finance and Accountant General withdrew a total sum of N4, 936, 916, 333.00 and $1.4 million, whereas the public liability of the Kaduna State Government(Gratuity and Pension) as at May 29, 2023 stood at N23, 993, 700, 494. 91.

The lawmakers noted that foreign loan handed over to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai in 2015 was $234 million, without any domestic debt and liability.

They noted that as at the time, the former governor took over, mopped up cash paid into TSA was N34 billion. The lawmakers found out that between the time el-Rufai took over to the time he handed over, the Kaduna State Government incurred liability on domestic and foreign loans to the tune of N98, 912, 000,000.00 and $758, 141, 699.

The lawmakers also revealed that through the use of unauthorised debit cards, the Kaduna Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the KADIRS withdrew through third parties the sum of N30 billion from the Internally Generated Revenue account of the state.

The lawmakers found that the state awarded contracts to the tune of N510, 407, 166, 975.39 but only paid N198, 921, 880, 169.04 to contractors, leaving a balance of N311, 485, 286,806.35 and $26, 284, 595.53.
