GAZA, Palestine – The armed wing of the Palestinian Liberation Movement, Hamas has blamed Israel and the United States of America as obstacles to genuine ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which has been rendered unliveable by continued bombardment of Israel in the nine months old war.

In a statement, Hamas Public Relations Officer in Lebanon, Mahmoud Taha said amendments presented by Hamas in the negotiation proposal are neither difficult nor impossible.

“They are in the interest of the Palestinian people after those horrific massacres”, he said, adding that the United States is not presenting itself as an impartial arbiter as a result of its ironclad relationship with Israel.

“We consider the United States biassed towards the zionist side, and if it wanted to pressure it to stop the war, it would have done so earlier”, he said, adding that the reliance of the resistant movement  is not on regimes and governments, but rather on the peoples who have taken to the streets in demonstrations worldwide to support Gaza.

“The protests continue in the United States and many Western countries, as well as some Arab countries like Yemen. We rely on the support fronts for the resistance in Yemen and Lebanon”, he said.

A source close to the Al-Mayadeen resistance said Hamas reaffirmed its firm positions on a permanent ceasefire and withdrawal but added the necessity of withdrawal from the Rafah crossing and the Philadelphia Route.

Hamas, the source said, emphasized the need for the three phases to be interconnected.

“The main obstacle is “israel’s” insistence on vetoing the release of several prisoners with life sentences. Hamas’s document demanded “israel” to disclose information about the detainees from Gaza after October 7.

“Hamas demanded a legal guarantee to ensure that those who are released will not be re-arrested or prosecuted for the charges they were previously convicted of”, the source added, noting that Hamas stressed the necessity of returning conditions in the occupation prisons to those before October 7.
