LAGOS, Nigeria – Despite the fact that many governments have ratified legislation designed to protect women’s safety, most of them remain vulnerable to acts of violence worldwide.
The World Health Organization estimates that almost one in three women—approximately 736 million people—experiences physical or verbal abuse in their lifetime.
Sadly, emerging data indicates that the rate of violence against women only intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a global crisis that affects not just women, but also families and communities,” said Odeyemi, Afolabi spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Women’s safety should be a concern to all.”
In May 2024, an article titled “Women’s Safety—The Bible’s Perspective” will be published on jw.org, the official website of Jehovah’s Witnesses, as a free resource to women who have experienced violence and need healing and support.
Quoting from the scriptures, the article will address God’s view of women and what he intends to do regarding the mistreatment of women in the future.
“The Bible offers so much hope for victims of violence,” continues Mr. Odeyemi. “ It is hoped that women who have been victims of any form of violence can truly find relief from real hope and comfort that the bible provides, feeling more cherished, valued, and supported.”
