UMUAHIA – Former governor of Abia State, Ogbonnaya Onu ia dead. He was 72.
It is not clear what killed him but former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, who announced his demise on X, described Onu as a distinguished statesman who served Nigeria with honour and integrity throughout his illustrious career.
“Nigeria has lost a respected political figure and patriot with the passing of Sir Ogonnaya Onu, former governor of Abia State and former Minister of Science and Technology.
“Sir Ogonnaya Onu was a distinguished statesman who served Nigeria with honour and integrity throughout his illustrious career”, Ibori said adding as a former governor and minister, “he worked tirelessly to drive progress and development in our nation.
“His passing at age 72 is indeed a great loss.
” On behalf of my family, I extend heartfelt condolences to Sir Onu’s family during this difficult time.
“May you find solace in celebrating his remarkable legacy of public service, vision, and commitment to the greater good of society.
“His impact will be long remembered and cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace. JOI”.
