LARA, Venezuela – The Governor of Lara State, Adolfo Pereira Antique has formally ordered the closure of Crystal Radio after 60 years in operation throwing dozens of workers into the job market.

The authorities refused to renew the operation licence of the radio station several months after it submitted request for renewal.

We gathered that instead of renewing the operation licence of Crystal Radio, what the Media Director, Mr. Orlando Fernández Medina, received was two resolutions ordering the closure of the station, one of them issued by the Ministry of Communication and Information.

The directives were issued despite the fact that there were no previous queries.

The decision has now thrown eight workers and 24 radio producers into the job market.

The State is noted for shutting vocal radio stations.

According to data from the NGO Espacio Público, at least 290 radio stations were closed between 2003 and 2023 in Venezuela.
