ABUJA, Nigeria – The Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN is working together with a group of lawyers to file a suit against Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and its member, Adanma Luke, producer “Another Side of Life”, on whose set the  five crew members died in the riverine area in Delta State.

President of AGN, Mr. Emeka Rollas Ejezie who was speaking on Arise News said the association decided on filling the suit to sound a note of warning that the welfare of actors will not be taken for granted and to make filmmakers to be serious about the profession.

He said it is necessary for filmmakers to take the right personnel to set  and to do the right things when shooting their films adding that something similar to the negligence that led to the death of Junior Pope and five others was exhibited when a producer took an unlicensed driver to a set to drive a car that inflicted serious injuries on Emmanuel Ayalogu, a prominent actor while shooting.

“Our lawyers are preparing a document already because this matter is actionable”, he said, adding that he is waiting for the committee he set up on the drowned actors, noting that a day after he imposed ban on shooting in the riverine areas, some actors went on set in the riverine areas without wearing life jackets.

“ I am waiting for the committee to submit their report. A day later, some people still went on production without life jackets. AMP and Adama Luke will hear from us. Our lawyers are preparing a document onit.  Some time ago, a producer hired a driver that does not know how to drive and the driver hit somebody and he was begging, “So don’t worry, we are on top of it”, Rollas assured.

The AGN president said he is working with AMP for a collective agreement that will be binding on members to forestall a repeat of the incident in Delta State.

“We are making overtures for collective agreement with AMP. In the next one month there will be a collective agreement between AGN and AMP”, he said.
