Spain wins double at World Skateboarding tour in Dubai

DUBAI, UAE – Spain has emerged winner in both the male and female category in the World Skateboarding Tour held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Danny Leon from Spain came top in the male category while Naia Laso also from Spain came first in the women category.

Gavin Bottgier, from the United States came second in the male category while Viktor Solmunde from Denmark came third.

In the female category, Kokona Hiraki and Mizuho Hasegawa, from Japan got the second and third spot respectively.

“Spain scored an emphatic double-victory in both Men’s and Women’s divisions with 29-year-old veteran Danny Leon clinching first on his opening run in the male event and 15-year-old newcomer Naia Laso overtaking Japanese World Champion Kokona Hiraki to do the same in Women’s”, the World Skateboarding Tour said in a statement.

The contest, organised by governing body World Skate, was held at a purpose-built temporary arena on the Dubai waterfront which played host to 188 skateboarders from 39 nations vying to gain vital points toward their Olympic World Skate Ranking which decides who progresses along the Road To Paris 2024.

The World Skateboarding Tour determines the top 44 Men and Women who progress to the Olympic Qualifier Series which will determine who represents their nations at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
