AMMAN, Jordan – The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has urged Israel to remove all obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid into Northern Gaza.

He spoke in Amman  at a join press conference with Ayman Safadi, Jordanian Foreign Minister  in continuation of his trip in solidarity with Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA has in a statement said Israel had informed the United Nations of its decision not to allow delivery of humanitarian aid to the starving population in Northern Gaza.

Despite the tragedy unfolding under our watch, the Israeli Authorities informed the @UN that they will no longer approve any @UNRWA food convoys to the north. This is outrageous & makes it intentional to obstruct lifesaving assistance during a man made famine”, UNRWA said in a statement.

At least 137 UN workers have been killed by Israel in the war on Gaza. Guterres said reports with UN staff still in Gaza revealed that the scale of horror in Gaza is unprecedented.

He described the UN as a complex organisation with council members  unable to reach a consensus for a ceasefire in Gaza. While assuring that a consensus is emerging, he said the only way to end conflict in the region is a two state solution that guarantees a Palestinian state.

He said that nothing justifies the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel and that nothing justifies collective punishment of Palestinians for the sins of Hamas.
