HAGUE, Netherlands – The United States and Fiji have continued to defend Israel’s right to occupy Palestine for security reasons at the third day of hearing on the legal consequence of Israel’s action in Gaza before the International Court of Justice, ICJ at the Hague, Netherlands.
Legal representative of the United State, Richard Visek told the court not to order immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Israel from Palestine.
“The court should not find that Israel is under obligation to immediately withdraw unconditionally from Palestine ”, he said, noting that ruling otherwise will make negotiations imposssible.
He said that the occupation should not be declared illegal as a result of previous resolutions calling for two state negotiated settlements.
He said that full realisation of a Palestinian State cannot be realised through unilateral decision, stressing that there has been a broad international support for negotiated settlement between Israel and Palestine.
