Tinubu inherited $7bn forex deficit, says CBN governor

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Yemi Cardoso has said that the President Bola Tinubu Government inherited $7 billion forex deficit.

The CBN governor who was speaking on Arise News said out of the $7 billion, a total of $2.4 billion had no business been there.

Cardoso said some of those who got these money has no import duties and that some who made request for forex got excess allocation.

He said some individuals who got allocation did not even make any request yet they were allocated.

He said these were the findings revealed from investigations carried out by Delloit hired by CBN.

He announced that government has been able to settle $2.3 billion and that $2.2 billion is yet to be settled.

He vowed that what is left will be settled shortly.

” We will settle all that shortly and move on”, he assured.

He explained that monetary policies must be at par with the physical policies.

The CBN governor said he has been having meetings with stakeholders, exchanging ideas.

” You will see that we are working the talk”, he said.
