BERLIN – German actress Sandra Hüller has won the European Film Prize for Best Actress for her role in “Anatomy of a Fall,” the European Film Academy said on Saturday evening at a ceremony held in Berlin.
Earlier, the European Film Academy honoured French filmmaker Justine Triet for Best Director for “Anatomy of a Fall,” a courtroom drama about a writer, played by Hüller, who tries to prove her innocence after her husband’s death.
In her acceptance speech, Hüller called for a moment of silence for peace in the world. The auditorium fell silent.
The actress, who was born in Thuringia, has already won the award in the past, for her role in comedy “Toni Erdmann,” and critics say she could win a major US film award.
Industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” ran a story about her earlier this year, headlined, “Sandra Hüller, Actress of the Year?”
