ANAMBRA, Nigeria – Governor of Anambra State Prof Charles Soludo has charged Corps members deployed to state to shun negative tendencies likely to create problems to the society.

According to the governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Ernest Ezeajughi, vices like cultism, drug addiction, substance abuse, cyber crime, kidnapping and other vices are negative tendencies capable of causing problems to the society.
He said, these vices rather than promoting the individuals and the society, degrade the society and equally have devastating effects on those who engage in such acts.
Soludo also called on Law Enforcement Agents, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Traditional Rulers, Town Unions, Faith-based Organizations to join hands in vigorous campaigns to stamp out these vices from the society.
“It is crystal clear that the youth form not less than 65 percent of the world population. They are equally the vibrant, energetic, innovative and creative segment of the society. So, the society holds them to a high esteem.
“Therefore, my administration will leave no stone unturned to accommodate this very important part of the population and make them not only useful to themselves but beneficial to the entire society” he stated.
The State NYSC co-ordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma in her opening speech told Soludo that 1,500 prospective Corps Members were deployed and had been registered.
According to her, the numbers consist of 714 Male and 786 Female who have happily adjusted to the new camp environment and are enthusiastically participating actively in camp activities.
Iruma also stated that the Corps members have started bonding together as family and friends.
“Beloved Prospective Corps members, it is necessary to inform you that the NYSC scheme has four cardinal programmes namely: Orientation, Primary Assignment, Community Development Services, Winding Up and Passing Out Programme.
Already you have started the first phase which is Orientation Course. The Orientation Course is expected to give you an insight into the operations of the NYSC, it is equally targeted at making you interact among yourselves through camp activities woven together with a view to making it possible for you to see one another as brothers and sisters, thereby uniting yourselves irrespective of the geopolitical zones you are coming from” she said.
She urged the corps members to abide by the letters and spirits of the oath and consequently conform to the NYSC Act and Bye Laws.
“You are therefore, enjoined to internalize the contents of the allegiance as they would shape and guide your conduct in the course of your service year and beyond” she said
