LAGOS, Nigeria – Mr. Bukola Olugbenga, MD Intelligence Properties kept people on the edge of their seats as he delivered his paper at the much hyped MotivaComedy Seminar/Awards ceremony held at the prestigeous Marriot Hotel, Ikeja recently.

Olugbenga who titled his paper ” Real Estate Business For All Seasons” spoke after five other speakers had eloquently delivered their papers.

And while taking the audience on a cruise drive through his paper, he said that one does not need to have money to play big in the sector provided one plays the game by its rules and be ready to learn from the masters in the game.

“In my case, I got into the business with no money after my graduation from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) by playing an intermediary role between some surveyors who wanted to sell their land and a buyer. The commission I made from the process gave me enough money to buy a half plot of land and since then, I never looked back,” he told his audience who were already ‘hynotised by the story of his humble beginnings.

“And with nothing then,” he continued “I now own houses in choice areas of Lagos. Any of you looking at and listening to me can also become a ‘multa’ if you are straight in your dealings with people,” he said.

He then went on to narrate to the mature audience, how he started out in the business saying that no matter the nature of your business, one needs a place to do it and that, that is the edge, Real Estate has over any other business.

The first speakers, Dr Femi Egbesola, President of ASBON and a representative of Nigerian Export Promotion Council at the seminar, dwelled on what those interested in exporting their goods must do to export to the right countries where their products are needed most.

The two ladies in their midst, Mrs. Adekunte of Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, and Mrs. Olufolake Ikumapayi, Head SMEs, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), blew the minds of the participants with eloquent delivery of their papers.

While Mrs. Ikumapayi informed the guests that there are various forms of loans and grants her agency has been giving and still giving out to small business owners who are bonafide residents of the state, Mrs. Adekunte broke it down to the lay man’s level why every business owner needs to register his or her business and why CAC makes sure that all those annual fees are paid  before filling their annual report.

The last speaker for the day, the convener of the programme, Mr. Somi Uranta, spoke on why the customer is King/God and why every business owner ought to retain them, including the ‘troublesome’ ones so that they keep coming and coming again.
