IKORODU, Nigeria – The Lagos Coroner Court, convened at Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu was today told that  a critical part of the autopsy to determine the cause of death of the late music star Ilerioluwa (Promise) Aloba  is being conducted in the United States of America (USA).

State Counsel Mr. O. Akinde informed Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi, the Coroner, that the autopsy on the external body of the deceased has been completed. However, the toxicology test, examining the internal body, is undergoing processes in the US.

Akinde disclosed this following pressure from counsels representing the deceased’s father, David Fadimu, TNKay Music Worldwide’s David Nawoola, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikorodu’s representative O.S.A. Aranmolaran, and Jennifer Nina.

Magistrate Shotobi inquired why the toxicology testing was conducted abroad instead of utilizing toxicology laboratories in Nigeria.

Akinde explained that Lagos state opted for the US due to the varied substances suspected to have been involved in the deceased’s case. This decision aimed to prevent potential controversies regarding the autopsy report, especially considering the global attention surrounding the deceased’s death.

He emphasized the need to avoid presenting an incomplete report from Prof. Soyemi, the local pathologist in Lagos. Meanwhile, during the proceedings, Adura Alogba, representing the deceased’s family, adopted a previously submitted deposition as evidence in the case.

According to the deposition, the deceased’s younger brother, Adura Aloba, recounted events, alleging an altercation on June 25, 2023, at Elegushi Beach where the deceased was assaulted by Sammy Larry and associates. Sammy Larry purportedly threatened the deceased’s life and those of his friends on that occasion.

Adura further claimed that on September 10, 2023, at an Ikorodu event, a dispute escalated between the deceased and Prime Boy, resulting in a physical confrontation where the deceased injured his hand against a car’s glass. Subsequently, the deceased expressed a need for medical attention due to the injury.

Following an injection administered by a nurse recommended by Ayobami Sodiq, the deceased started vomiting and was taken to two hospitals, Curamed Hospital and Preze Hospital at Lekki, both confirming his demise.

Under cross-examination by state counsel Akinde, Adura clarified that the deceased did not display any signs of illness before or after his performance in Ikorodu. He also mentioned not witnessing the altercation between the deceased and Prime Boy as he was in a second Prado Jeep.

Adura revealed that they did not apply any treatment to Mohbad’s injury sustained during the confrontation with Prime Boy, only wiping the blood. Additionally, he noted that the nurse who administered the injection was called two days after the incident by Ajisegiri (Bami).

Contrary to the deceased’s father’s claims, Adura denied knowledge of any cloth soaked in blood, asserting that only the bedsheet had blood spots from Mohbad’s elbow injury. He further clarified details regarding the deceased’s injuries, highlighting that the elbow wound wasn’t deep, and there were no injuries on his abdomen.

During questioning by Fadimu, Adura confirmed that it was Mohbad who requested the nurse’s service due to the injury sustained during the altercation with Prime Boy. He maintained that the injury was not severe and that the deceased didn’t have any abdominal injuries.

Contradicting his father’s account, Adura stated he was unaware of any fight between Mohbad and his wife on the eve of his death and testified that Mohbad seemed fine on the morning of Tuesday, September 12.

He acknowledged cooking the Indomie (instant noodles) that the deceased consumed before his death and clarified that the packs were from their home’s supplies, mentioning that he and Wunmi also consumed the same Indomie.

Despite being close, Adura acknowledged that his late brother didn’t discuss all matters with him. He confirmed the deceased’s father occasionally intervened in disputes between the deceased and his wife but insisted that the deceased and his wife shared a close relationship.

Legal counsels involved in the proceedings collectively requested the Coroner to summon Sultan and the driver who transported Mohbad to Ikorodu on September 10 for further testimony.

Prime Boy is scheduled to appear again before the court on December 6, given the significance of his involvement in the testimonies presented during the proceedings.
