LONDON – Samm Henshaw, a fast rising artist who has been able to carve a niche for himself has released his first Afrobeat single, which he titled Jumoke to celebrate enduring African love and lifestyle.
Jumoke is an Afro-folk pop song created with lyrics designed to melt the soul. It’s a love song layered on a smooth bass, rooted in traditional percussion, with a splash of sax.
Samm Henshaw leans on his Nigerian heritage to evoke nostalgic feeling in this mid-tempo poetic love song.
On Jumoke, the multitalented musician skillfully serenades with a simple narrative of love, adulation, romance, longing and admiration, all necessary ingredients of an enduring African love.
In this very revealing song, Samm Henshaw expresses his fears in life without Jumoke. Shaped by Gaetan Judd, this emotional serenades, harmoniously blends with its infectious rhythms and diverse instrumentation.
Proceeds generated from Jumoke will go to Steve Spotlight’s children to commemorate the anniversary of his passing.
Samm Henshaw tells a short story on his iconic uncle, Steve: “ On October 6, 2022, we lost someone incredibly special, my uncle, Steve. He was a light in every room he entered and he encouraged me to create songs celebrating our Nigerian heritage.
“Jumoke was born from his inspiration, but sadly, he passed on before hearing it. This release is dedicated to Steve and the song’s master will be owned by his four children. Jumoke is a celebration of African love and life in his honour”, he said, recalling Steve’s unforgettable past.
This lovely video production was directed by Timi Akindele-Ajani and Samm Henshaw. Samm had posted on his social media handle that he was looking for a wedding he will attend to shoot something authentic but would in exchange for the video footage give a free performance.

Born 22nd February, 1994 to Nigerian parents, Iniabasi Samuel Henshaw(Samm Henshaw) grew up with Gospel, Hip Hop and R&B. He is known for hits like Broke and Church. He performed on stages at Wireless Festival and sold out elite venues like Electric Brixton and embarked on musical tours with the likes of Tori Kelly, Chance the Rapper and Allen Stone.
He released his debut album, Untidy Soul in 2022 to widespread critical acclaim, including 4 Star reviews on NME and The Guardian. Besides, NPR Music and VIBE featured the album among their best for the year 2022.
