NEW YORK – A new solo exhibition of the work of German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans has opened in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighbourhood following his exhibition in New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

“Wolfgang Tillmans: Fold Me” is to run at the David Zwirner Gallery until October 14. It follows a major retrospective of his work at MoMA in the autumn of last year.

The rooms felt like an “extension of my studio” Tillmans said during a preview of the exhibition, his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, which is regarded as one of the world’s most successful.

The exhibition shows a film alongside still photos. Zwirner, who is also German, first opened his New York gallery in 1993 in the SoHo neighbourhood. The gallery currently has four New York locations and is also has galleries in Los Angeles, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

“Wolfgang Tillmans: To look without fear” was a considerable success at the MoMA, New York’s renowned Museum of Modern Art. It is currently being exhibited in Toronto and will move to San Francisco in mid-November.

Tillmanns, 55, is one of Germany’s best known artists. He has received several major awards, including Britain’s Turner Prize. US magazine Time this year listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
