BERLIN 0 A new survey found that 16.6% of all working hours in Germany are now done from home, even when taking into account jobs that cannot be done remotely, the ifo Institute announced on Friday.
Companies reported in August that 25% of employees worked at least partly from home, according to the ifo Institute survey,
Overall, “less than half of all jobs are at all compatible with home office,” said Jean-Victor Alipour, the study’s author. “Where home office is possible, employees work from home an average of 1.5 days per week.”
The proportion of hours worked from home vary widely depending on industry, the ifo Institute survey of companies found.
In advertising and IT, nearly two-thirds of all work is done from home, while in management consulting the figure is about a quarter
At the other end of the scale are restaurants and the hospitality industry with just 1%. Beverage manufacturers reported just 2% and construction companies reported just 3%.
The share of German employees working at least part-time from home “has remained virtually unchanged since the home office requirement was repealed in March 2022,” Alipour said, referring to government pandemic regulations aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
“Home office is now an integral part of the work culture in Germany and will remain so in the future. Hybrid models are catching on,” he said.
