BERLIN – A major exhibition dedicated to the work of German fashion designer Wolfgang Joop is opening in Potsdam, a city on the outskirts of Berlin, in September.
The exhibition will open at the Potsdam Museum in November 2024, shortly before Joop’s 80th birthday, and feature pieces from Joop’s career, the museum and designer announced together in August.
One of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century, Joop became known in the 1980s and 1990s for his bold, eclectic designs, while also establishing a well-known collection of fragrances.
The “Widerspruch” (“Contradiction”) exhibition is to take place in the Potsdam Museum, located in the heart of the historic city, about 40 minutes from Berlin’s city centre, and where Joop himself lives.
“I’m at an age where I have to look backwards,” Joop said ahead of the exhibition. “I feel I’ve reached a point where the picture is rounding off.”
The concept of the exhibition is still in the works, the organizers said, but explained that in addition to fashion exhibits, the show would also feature a number of videos and sketches in an effort to illustrate Joop’s creative process.
