IKOYI,Lagos, Nigeria – The Federal Government today withdrew charge of illegal possession of firearms from the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele and filed new charges against the former boss of the apex bank.
Earlier today, Director of Public Prosecution, DPP in the Ministry of Justice , Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar approached the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi with an oral application to withdraw the charge of illegal possession of firearms.
Bakodo who spoke to journalists said the new charges were filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, stressing that one of the charges includes conferring unlawful advantage. He did not mention the person at the receiving end of his alleged unlawful advantage.
Recall that Emefiele was initially arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Lagos and granted bail in the sum of N20 million and surety in like sum.
Owiebo also ordered that Emefiele be kept in the custody of Ikoyi Correctional Centre until he is able to complete his bail.
But the DSS wrestled him from operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Centre in an unprecedented shameful brawl that has been condemned by all well meaning Nigerians.
The bail was never honoured until today when the DPP withdrew one of the charges and filed another case of conferring unlawful advantage at a Federal High Court, Abuja.
