BREMEN – Forward Marvin Ducksch is set to renew his contract at Bundesliga club Werder Bremen by two years until 2026, the Bild paper reported on Sunday.

Bild said that an agreement between player and club has been reached and an official announcement could come before Bremen start pre-season training on Wednesday.

There had been speculation over the past months that the 29-year-old Duksch could leave Bremen for €7 million ($7.6 million) via a release clause that had to be triggered by June 15.

Duksch scored 12 goals in the past season and together with top scorer Niclas Füllkrug, who had 16 goals, formed the best attacking partnership in the league.

As a result, Duksch had been linked with runners-up Borussia Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin.

The future of Germany striker Füllkrug in Bremen remains unclear as he has also been the subject of transfer speculation. His Bremen contract is until 2025 and he has not ruled out staying.

Bremen, who came 13th in the past season, made headlines recently when they signed of midfielder Naby Keita on a free transfer from Liverpool.
