BERLIN – Kevin-Prince Boateng plans to decide within the next fortnight whether to continue his long playing career or not, after the expiration of his contract at relegated Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.

Berlin-born Boateng made his professional debut in 2005 at Hertha and returned in 2021 – after playing at a host of other clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, Barcelona, Fiorentina, Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 36-year-old rarely played in the past season owing to injuries but was a team leader.
There has been speculation that the former Ghana international could continue playing outside Germany, or he could stay at Hertha in a function off the pitch.

Boateng said at an event in advance of next year’s Euros in Germany, for which he is a Berlin ambassador, that “I will make a statement in two weeks.

“I must see what is best for me, what my body can still give. I am still in a phase where I am considering how it will continue.

“It was difficult weeks and months after relegation. That’s why I told all parties that I need a break, a little holiday. But a decision will come in the next two weeks, and then I will announce it.”
