ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu and Secretary of the party, Sen. Iyiola Omisore have resigned.
Adamu, who is former governor of Kano State has been at loggerheads with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the announcement of the principal officers of the house by President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, fueling calls for him to resign.
Sources say he and the secretary resigned ahead of the party’s National Executive Council(NEC) meeting, where his faith will be determined.
The party’s NEC meeting was initially billed to hold July 10 and 11 but was postponed till Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to the president’s international engagements.
According to sources, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu was one of the people who told Adamu to resign because he had become a liability to the party.
Besides, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma is reported to have told him that if he didn’t resign, they will remove him during the NEC meeting.
