ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of 15 Federal Airports after prominent Nigerians.
A memo released by the Federal Ministry of Aviation dated June 1, 2023, and signed by Mrs Joke Olatunji for the Director of Airport Operations renamed 15 federal airports in the country. The Maiduguri Airport was renamed after the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, while the Port Harcourt Airport was named after the late nationalist Obafemi Awolowo.
The Benin Airport was named after the Late Oba of Benin, Oba Akenzua II, while Ebonyi Airport was named after the former President of the Senate, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo.
The Nasarawa Airport took the name of late founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, Usman Dan Fodio.
The Osubi Airport, Warri was named after Alfred Diete Spiff, while Ilorin Airport was named after the Late Gen. Tunde Idiagbo.
