MOSCOW – Reports circulating on social media that the Russian Armed Forces delivered a strike on the encampments of the private military company Wagner are false, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Friday.
“All messages and video footage that are being spread on social media on behalf of Y. Prigozhin that allege that the ‘Russian Defense Ministry delivered a strike on PMV Wagner encampments in the rear’ do not have a basis in reality and are a media provocation,” the ministry said.
The ministry also said Russian forces continue to perform combat missions along the line of engagement with Ukrainian forces in the area of the special military operation.
Meanwhile, the Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee on Friday said that statement spread on behalf of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the private military company Wagner are unfounded.
“The statements that are being spread on behalf of Yevgeny Prigozhin are absolutely unfounded. In connection with these statements, the Federal Security Service of Russia has started an investigation into a call for an armed mutiny”, the committee investigating the alleged statement said and demanded that the probe be stopped immediately.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is aware of the situation that is unfolding around Prigozhin, and the necessary measures are being taken.
Also, the Russian Defense Ministry said that reports circulating on social media that allege the Russian Armed Forces had delivered a strike on “PMC Wagner encampments in the rear” are false.
