MUNICH – Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said he has no doubts that coach Xabi Alonso will remain at the club for the upcoming season.

“He has a contract with us – also for the next year. He has clearly said that he sees his future with us next season as well,” Rolfes told the Bild TV on Sunday.

Rolfes said it’s obvious that Alonso “is an interesting coach” for other clubs.

“We were convinced about that when he signed him, even though he still lacked a big experience as a coach. We’re happy that he is with us. And that will be the case for a while. I have no worries at all,” Rolfes said.

Alonson joined Leverkusen in October 2022 for his first job as coach at a first division team. His contract runs until June 2024, but he’s reportedly a target from several top clubs.

Asked whether former Bayer Munich midfielder Alonso could be the next coach for the Bavarians, Rolfes stated: “Bayern have a coach who already had great achievements in his career,” he said referring to Thomas Tuchel.
